Azolla
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bamanwara (Jalore-II) actively promotes Azolla cultivation as a low-cost, sustainable and climate-resilient technology for improving livestock nutrition and farm profitability in the arid and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan. Through frontline demonstrations, trainings and on-farm trials, KVK educates farmers about the scientific method of Azolla production and its efficient utilization at the farm level.
KVK, Bamanwara provides practical guidance on pit and tank-based Azolla cultivation, maintenance of optimum water level, nutrient management, and regular harvesting. Farmers are trained to use Azolla as a protein-rich supplementary feed for dairy animals, poultry, goats and fish. The inclusion of Azolla in livestock feed has shown positive results in improving milk yield, animal health and reducing feed costs.
Azolla cultivation requires minimal space, water and investment, making it especially suitable for small and marginal farmers, women and rural youth. By promoting Azolla, KVK, Bamanwara supports integrated farming systems, enhances resource-use efficiency and contributes to sustainable livestock development and income enhancement in the region.
