Napier Grass Promotion by KVK, Bamanwara (Jalore-II)
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bamanwara (Jalore-II) promotes improved varieties of Napier grass as a high-yielding and nutritious green fodder to address the acute fodder scarcity in the arid and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan. Through frontline demonstrations, trainings and advisory services, KVK educates farmers on scientific cultivation practices of Napier grass for sustainable livestock feeding.
KVK, Bamanwara provides technical guidance on land preparation, selection of improved hybrids, planting methods, irrigation scheduling and nutrient management for Napier grass cultivation. Emphasis is laid on its perennial nature, rapid regrowth and multiple cuttings, which ensure year-round availability of green fodder. Farmers are also trained on proper cutting intervals to maintain fodder quality and maximize yield.
The adoption of Napier grass has helped farmers improve fodder availability, enhance milk production and reduce dependence on purchased feed. Due to its high biomass production, palatability and suitability for silage making, Napier grass plays a vital role in strengthening dairy-based farming systems. By promoting Napier cultivation, KVK, Bamanwara supports sustainable livestock development, efficient use of land and water resources, and improved livelihood security of farmers in the region.
